A new critical discourse around technology is emerging. Beyond privacy or copyright activism, this discourse combines anti-trust thinking with analyses of financialized power. Fearless technology discourse is about calling out racist algorythms and misogynist online culture. It’s about putting an end to ‘Silicon Valley libertarianism’ and its accompanying start-up culture that breaks more than it builds. Fearless technology is also about looking at the full stack, not just software, but also the ownership of glass fibre infrastructure, for example. It’s about our collective struggle against surveillance capitalism and presenting something else to replace it with.
