Re-claiming Public Knowledge

Over the past few years, more and more people have started to realise that the current system does not work. We have an intellectual property regime that allows big companies to claim patents on innovations that were created by publicly funded research. The pharmaceutical industry is appealing to our sense of market logic to defend this situation. But markets fail, especially when governments fail to regulate. There are alternatives. It is time to re-claim the concept of public. Commons Network works with other civil society organisations to re-frame this debate, to inspire people to look beyond the capitalist paradigm, to re-think how we frame biomedical knowledge.
