Maartje is an anthropologist with over 15 years of experience with foundations, NGOs, knowledge institutes, and governments, supporting civil society. Her work focuses specifically on equity, movement building, democratic renewal, and democratizing philanthropy.
Currently, Maartje works as an independent facilitator and strategic advisor at the intersection of strategy development, fundraising, and participatory processes to strengthen democracy. Additionally, she supports and is active in various anti-racism movements, has been part of several feminist initiatives, and is or has been a board member of, among others, EDGE Funders Alliance, het Actiefonds, and Systemic Action.
