Special Event in Brussels on Health Commons, FP9 and Public-Needs Oriented R&D

 

Health Action International (HAI) and Commons Network (CN) organize a discussion on the opportunities and challenges of the system of medical research & development (R&D). The event will be in Brussels, in the European Parliament, on Wednesday the 31st of January. And you can come!

On behalf of Commons Network, our director David Hammerstein will give a presentation on challenges and opportunities and more specifically on How To Manage Biomedical Knowledge As A Commons.

Member of the European Parliament Lola Sanchez Caldentey, one of the hosts, will start the day with introductory remarks. Other hosts are MEPs Nessa Childers and Michele Rivasi.

The first panel will focus on how the market-driven R&D system affects the current Horizon 2020 programme. Speakers are:

In the second panel, we will focus on alternatives to the current system, specifically how to incorporate public-needs oriented R&D into the new Framework Programme 9 (FP9). Speakers are:

The respondent will be Jean-François Dechamp of the European Commission (DG Research and Innovation), and final remarks will be by MEP Michèle Rivasi.

We hope to work together to make concrete recommendations to shape the upcoming FP9 in ways that guarantee a fair public return on public investment.
